Our journey
We’ve always been passionate about protecting the environment. Having spent years working in digital marketing and online strategy, we began to notice a major, overlooked issue: the hidden environmental cost of our digital activities. While businesses rightly focus on the carbon footprint of physical assets, digital waste is rarely treated with the same urgency—even though its real-world impact is vast.
With the rapid rise of AI and cloud computing, the demand on data centers, energy grids, water resources, even our wellbeing, is growing faster than ever. We believe technology should drive progress, but it must be managed responsibly. That’s why we advocate for sustainable digital operations, thoughtful data storage, and renewable energy adoption—working toward a cleaner, more conscious digital future. That's Dwindl.

Who is Dwindl for?
Digital waste is an invisible challenge that affects everyone. Every UK business generates some form of digital waste—from redundant server files, bloated email systems and outdated cloud backups.
We work with businesses to assess your unique digital footprint and advise on industry-leading best practices to streamline your operations. To help you build a culture of sustainability, we will provide specialised tracking tools and educational training needed to teach your staff how to practice digital hygiene.

We work with...

Housing Associations
Housing associations hold vast amounts of critical data—ranging from gas/fire safety certificates, housing reports and personal data (PII). Files quickly accumulate into "dark data" - staff and contractors often have outdated information which threatens tenant safety and regulatory GDPR penalties.

NHS & Healthcare
The NHS stores tons of data, but reliance on legacy systems has created a digital waste crisis. Duplicate patient records, archived medical scans, and redundant administrative communications stored across fractured local trusts diverts much-needed funds away from frontline patient care.

Schools & Education
Educational institutions are massive consumers of hardware, as computers and tablets are replaced every 3 - 5 years, a clear policy is required to recycle these assets through verified IT recycling programs. Schools hoard tons of ROT data — old student profiles, unread emails, and outdated learning materials saved on servers.

Charities & Community Organisations
For charities, non-profits, and community groups, digital waste has a heavy impact - since they operate on tight budgets and rely on public trust. Free cloud storage and software tiers for non-profits is capped, so it is essential for accumulated "dark data" to be organised and archived to save space and reduce SaaS Waste.

UK Fintech
With strict regulatory frameworks financial services (Fintech, Banking, and Insurance) collect transaction data, customer, and market data, much of which becomes redundant. This includes transaction logs, security camera footage, abandoned account records stored on servers.

Call Centres
Call centre operations produce large quantities of digital waste. These include unmanaged recordings, bloated audio codecs, zombie accounts and expired system logs. While some recordings must legally be kept for compliance, many call centres store all files indefinitely.

Marketing and Creative Agencies
These industries handle high-definition media files, raw video footage, and complex graphic designs daily. Since files are often "hot stored" (instantly accessible) on the cloud, agencies face high storage costs and egress fees for uploading/downloading data.

Legal & Professional Services
Law firms, accounting practices, and consultancies are some of the heaviest producers of digital waste due to a deep-seated culture of "hoarding" files for compliance.

Ecommerce
Digital waste directly impacts two critical metrics - website loading speed (conversion rates) and operational cloud costs. This looks like unoptimised product images, autoplay videos, abandoned tracking codes, obsolete database backups, and expired customer shopping basket logs.
